Leaders are forged during the moments when their leadership is
tested. Scholars of leadership call these moments crucibles. I prefer to use the term turning points. Leadership moments are shaped by the leader’s
character (integrity plus courage). Leadership is character in motion. Leaders let
these turning points define who they are. When do these opportunities present
themselves for all of us to create turning points that define who we are?
1) Overcoming resistance. Resistance emboldens leadership. The higher
the resistance the higher indication the leader is at the front leading the
cause.
2) Taking a stance at the risk of displeasing others. Leaders take
charge. “Follow me” or “I will be the first one” Leaders love those they lead.
Leaders love the unlovable.
3) Dealing with rejection. Leaders turn rejection into positive
energy. Leaders know that rejection moments are the moments that test and shape
a leader’s soul.
4) Acting despite of fears. Leaders convert fears into advancement. Leaders
know that where there is fear there is hope. Fear is an indication of what
needs to be done next. Leaders know they need to do what they think they cannot
do.
5) Acting with a clear vision. Leaders march towards the destination.
Leaders always point the finger at themselves before pointing at anyone else.
6) Feeling the burning desire to fulfill dreams. By fulfilling their
dreams leaders set the example for others to follow.
7) Creating little blame and lots of responsibility. Leaders prepare
themselves for they know the time will come when they will be called, compelled
to lead. The integrity and courage of the leader promotes the building of
character of the organization.
Be blessed and be a blessing to others!
